Fields is Moving from Free to Paid — Everything You Need to Know About the Switch

Up until now, Fields - Custom Fields for Jira has been completely free. Now, the time has come to make the switch to a paid model. Although we love giving away freebies, we also recognize that Fields has come a long way since its initial launch 3 years ago, reaching an impressive 2400 installs to date. To keep providing you with the app you know and love – and make sure you have the very best functionality – we need more resources. That means additional costs, but it also means new upgrades, developments, and features for you.

Transforming workflows with Fields

Fields puts the power in your teams’ hands, letting them work how they want, with endless possibilities for tracking projects. From traffic light systems and colored labels, to star ratings, progress bars, and visual due dates, Fields makes project management in Jira more seamless and engaging than ever. But there’s always room for improvement. And that’s why we’re moving to a paid model, because these improvements require more resources and funds.

Why we’re making the switch

So, why are we making the switch? There are a few reasons, actually. The main driver for this change is a strategic decision, necessary to cover the increasing costs associated with support and ongoing development. This allows us to ensure the long-term sustainability and availability of the product so many users love.

We’re continually looking for ways to update and enhance our apps, and Fields is no exception. As part of the upcoming switch to a paid model, we are implementing significant improvements. These include a deep dive into code quality to enhance performance and reduce technical debt. We’re also introducing upgraded versions of various custom field types, such as the new “Multi-level” field. Additionally, Fields will support Jira Service Management, allowing seamless integration within the JSM portal, regardless of whether you have both Jira and JSM installed. These enhancements will be available with the transition to the paid model.

When will the switch happen?

We wanted to give you plenty of notice of the switch, so Fields will change to the paid version on August 12th, 2024. If you do not accept the paid model until September 25th, you will no longer be able to use Fields.

How can I switch to the paid model?

We love that you’re thinking of making the switch! Check out the “Manage Apps” section in your Jira instance and click on “Paid Update” to get started with the new version. It’s as easy as that.
