We’re excited to announce the release of a new version of Cosmos! 🎉 This update brings major performance improvements, powerful new features, and a more enhanced intranet experience, all built on top of Confluence.

This release also introduces a shift to a paid model. If your team is currently using Cosmos, this page explains what’s changing, what’s included in the new version, and what steps you need to take to continue using Cosmos without disruptions.

Why the change

Cosmos started three years ago as the first intranet app designed for Confluence Cloud, opening a new way for teams to communicate and stay connected directly inside their workspace. As adoption grew and more organizations relied on Cosmos, we saw the opportunity to build on that foundation with a more scalable, consistent, and enterprise-ready experience. Through continuous feedback, testing, and collaboration, we shaped the product around the way teams use Confluence every day. Along the way, we saw opportunities to expand Cosmos beyond its original scope.

We rebuilt Cosmos to offer an even more complete intranet experience — one that supports team collaboration and ensures no important message gets missed inside a platform teams already rely on.

What’s new in the revamped Cosmos app

The new Cosmos app introduces a more refined experience with better design, greater control, and expanded functionality. Here’s what you can expect from the revamped version:

To reflect this expanded value, Cosmos is moving to a paid model with the upcoming release. Positive feedback from our customers has confirmed that Cosmos is ready for this next step. We’re confident in this decision and excited to keep delivering powerful features and thoughtful design with a long-term, scalable approach.

With this release, we’re dedicating more time and resources to continuously improving Cosmos. Our goal is to keep evolving the experience and delivering new capabilities that support your teams even better. What you need to do

To use these new features, all you need to do is install the latest app update in the Confluence administration once it becomes available.

Follow these steps:

1. In the left Confluence sidebar, open Apps.

2. Click the three dots ( … ).

3. Select Manage apps. Alternatively, open this page directly: https://yoursite.atlassian.net/wiki/plugins/servlet/upm

4. Find Cosmos in the app list.

5. Click Paid update. This starts the evaluation period, which lasts at least 30 days. No payment is charged immediately. The evaluation gives time to test before billing starts.

6. After the evaluation period ends, the paid subscription begins and billing starts automatically.

The free version of Cosmos will remain available for a limited time but will no longer receive updates. Until Apr 15, 2026, you can continue using it as usual. After that, it will switch to view-only mode with no editing capabilities. If you have any questions, please reach out to us via support.
