News
The News module in Optics improves internal communication by turning Confluence blogs into structured, visually engaging news overviews. It helps increase the visibility and impact of updates across the organization.
Templates
Creating News starts by selecting a template.
News are available in multiple template types, including Magazine, Card, List and Short List, each designed for different content scenarios.
Templates are designed by Caelor’s design team to ensure a modern and consistent look across pages.
Configuration
After selecting a template, a live preview displays the latest blogs from the Confluence instance, allowing the module to be customized for the intended use case.
All News templates include two types of settings: Layout and Content.
Layout
Layout settings control the overall appearance and behavior of the selected News template.
Pagination
Configure pagination behavior, such as Show more, Previous / next, or no pagination.
Link behaviour
Define whether blog links open in the same tab or a new tab.
Display elements
Available display elements vary by template and may include author, space, labels, date and description.
These elements can be enabled or disabled for all articles.
Styling options
Styling options include corners rounding and colors.
Colors follow a two-color system using background and text colors to ensure consistency across light and dark modes and alignment with the overall design system.
Available colors are managed through the Caelor Style guide to maintain consistency across all formatting modules.
Content
Content settings define which blogs are displayed in the News overview.
Content can be configured dynamically using filters and sources, or manually by selecting specific blog posts. Learn more here.
Available filters include spaces, contributors, and labels. Filters of the same type use OR logic, while different filter types use AND logic. For example, selecting Space A and Space B with the Label “Company” returns blogs from either space that also contain the selected label.
Sorting options include Title and Created Date, with Title sorted alphabetically (A–Z) and Created Date sorted from newest to oldest.
News background image
Each News article uses the blog’s header image as its background. If no header image is available, a predefined Unsplash images are used instead.
When Cosmos is installed, blog posts receive additional options to control and manage metadata. One of these features is the News Background Image, which can be used instead of the standard header image. Read more here: Powered by Cosmos - Intranet for Confluence | Blog post settings
Group News in tabs
Tabs in the News module help organize related content within a single module. They allow multiple news overviews to be grouped together instead of using separate News modules.
Layout settings apply globally to all tabs within the module, ensuring a consistent visual style across every tab.
Content is configured separately for each tab.
Personalization
The personalization feature is powered by Cosmos – Intranet for Confluence.
View permissions can be managed globally for the entire module or individually per tab when tabs are enabled. Using Collections from Cosmos, specific tabs can be shown only to selected audiences, enabling personalized content for different user groups.
